Abstract
Introduction: This study adapted and validated the Persian version of the State Self-Compassion Scale (SSCS) for Persian-speaking populations, examining its factor structure and psychometric properties through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA).
Method: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 556 Tehran residents; after screening and outlier removal, 515 participants were retained. The scale underwent forward-backward translation, and state self-compassion was activated via a "recall prompt" protocol. CFA was conducted in AMOS and SPSS, and criterion validity was assessed using the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS).
Results: CFA confirmed an excellent fit for the six-factor first-order model (χ²/df = 1.66, CFI = 0.99, TLI = 0.98, RMSEA = 0.036). Internal consistency was high, with Cronbach's alpha ranging from 0.81 to 0.96 across subscales and 0.85 for the total scale. Criterion validity was supported by significant correlations with Positive Affect (r = 0.50) and Negative Affect (r = −0.67).
Conclusions: The Persian SSCS demonstrates strong reliability and validity with a confirmed six-factor structure, supporting its use in both research and clinical contexts within Persian-speaking populations.
