Introduction: Using Path analysis, the present study was an attempt to investigate the relationship between parenting styles and adolescents' self-esteem with regard to the mediatory effects of basic psychological needs satisfaction.Method: 238 first grade high school male students in Urmia city took part in this study by answering the following questionnaires: parenting styles, basic psychological needs, and self-esteem.Results: Findings showed that basic psychological needs satisfaction had a mediatory role in the relationship between parenting styles and self-esteem: permissive and authoritative parenting style exerted an indirect positive influence on male students' self-esteem through basic psychological needs satisfaction. In addition, authoritarian parenting style had an indirect negative influence on self-esteem through basic psychological needs satisfaction. Conclusion: Basic psychological needs satisfaction can mediate the relationship between parenting styles and self-esteem.
